This year, treat yourself to something different from the norm and book your holidays to Malaysia. A wonderful mixture of culture is one of the many features that will have this holiday stand out from the others.

Although English is widely spoken and is the language of choice, you can still hear other ethnic groups of Indian and Chinese conversing in their native tongues. With the diverse culture comes a vast array of natural beauty as Malaysia offers travellers a chance to peer deep into its rich rainforests where unblemished jungles still house rare fauna and flora. The area is adorned with crystal clear beaches of endless sand and everywhere you look are peeks into the county’s deep past through monuments with Portuguese and Dutch ancestry.

If you are planning holidays to Malaysia, some of the more popular destination choices include Kuala Lumpur, which is considered the nerve centre of Malaysia. There is also Miri and Mulu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Kuching.

Some of the top sights to see in the country include the Palace of Culture, Malaysian Agricultural Park, Air Keroh Recreational Forest and Taman Negara, the country’s 150-million year old forest.

Tahiti is the largest archipelago in French Polynesia and is also known as the honeymoon capital of the world. With its pristine beaches, palm trees and turquoise waters Tahiti is as close as it gets to paradise on earth.

Attractions

The major attractions in Tahiti include the Aqua-safari and diving at Eleuthera – aside from the relaxing spa, golf and aqua-biking activities. The lagoons with their huts called ‘fares’ in the local language offer some of the most luxurious yet rustic experiences in accommodation. The nightlife of Tahiti provides a unique and exotic experience, enhanced by the surrounding natural beauty. It also has a few museums that can be visited to learn about the local history, indigenous peoples and the culture.

Islands and activities

Other islands that dot the landscape have their own attraction and charm. Mount Marau dominates the island of Tahiti Nui while the Tahiti Iti has Mount Ronui and Mount Meireunei, each with unspoiled lagoons and beaches with vividly coloured coral reef formations. However, Tahiti is not just for the honeymooners it also offers cruising and diving trips for families on a holiday as well. The tropical rain forest with beautiful waterfalls is a hiker’s paradise. Shopping for souvenirs and handicrafts in the local market can be a delight in itself and the fresh farm products and seafood can be cooked leisurely at one of the many bungalows that are available. Local and French cuisine at fine dining family restaurants is a treat to the palate.

Tahiti is also famous for its caves that can be explored during an adventurous daytime excursion.

Most cities have their own customs and traditions when it comes to how they run their day to day lives. Hong Kong has streams of tourists visiting every year and rather than adjust to the requirements of its visitors, the city imposes its long-held lifestyle routines on them.

Hong Kong has a distinctive attitude to tipping. For rewarding bellboys and taxi drivers, you can base your tip on the level of service you receive. When you go to a restaurant, tips are included in a mandatory 10% service charge.

If you intend taking a taxi, start by writing your destination down on paper. Your driver will probably understand English, but it is better to be sure than sorry. The best place to hail a cab is outside your hotel or, if you are sightseeing, look for a taxi stand. A detailed explanation of the basic rate for the first two kilometres and costs such as tunnel charges are shown on the doors of the taxi. Your driver will print a receipt if you need one.

When you are shopping or taking the sights of Hong Kong, you should have your identification with you at all times. Carrying large amounts of cash is not advisable in any city, but in Hong Kong it is not necessary as the shops take all major credit cards.

As taxis are not always the most comfortable or convenient way to travel, tourists should become acquainted with Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR). The MTR operates on six routes, which cover Tsuen Wan to Central, Yau Mat to Tiu Keng Leng, North Point to Po Lam, Sheung to Chai Wan, Tung Chung to Hong Kong and to Hong Kong from the airport. The airport route departs every ten minutes from Central through Kowloon, Olympic and Tsing Yi stations, arriving at the airport approximately 20 minutes later.

Japan – the land of the rising sun, has many natural, beautiful locations for an exotic holiday, in addition to a rich cultural heritage steeped in history. The climate of the country varies from the north to south and packing both summer and winter clothes is highly recommended.

The jungles of Ecuador have more bio-diversity than found anywhere else on Earth. A traveller choosing to experience a jungle tour will stay in a cabin far away from civilisation or even stay aboard a ship that cruises up a river. With each new day, the traveller will venture into parts of the jungle and see how amazing it is up close. Guided treks will be taken into the forestland. On these treks, a traveller will see strange and unusual insects, animals and birds. A guide will show the wide-eyed traveller the many types of plants that are growing there and explain to them the plants that are eaten, their medicinal properties, and how native people make tools out of these plants.

The jungle tourist will get to see where the natives of Ecuador live and visit their homes. They will observe how these people travel, work and live without the high-tech conveniences that are so taken for granted in our own daily lives. A medicine woman or man (called a Shaman) will be visited. These spiritual tribe leaders will demonstrate their practices. The Shaman will explain to the tourist the fragile coexistence they experience with their spirituality, naturalistic medicine and the environment. The traveller will also sample peculiar jungle foods such as strange fruits, fresh fish wrapped inside leaves, or even insects!

The jungle is alive at night-time. Most animals are only active at night. There are lagoon rides on canoes and treks into the forest with only a flashlight and camera to search for these nocturnal creatures. Bird lovers will be in their element with the opportunity to see over 450 bird species in the rainforest of Ecuador. There is a variety of jungle experiences to choose from. They can last a few hours or days, or longer than a week. Lodging ranges from basics, to mid range, to 4-star. The nearest international airport is in Lima.

Airline bosses have reacted angrily at the news that there will be an 8% increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD), the increase came in effect [...]

Airline bosses have reacted angrily at the news that there will be an 8% increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD), the increase came in effect on April 1st and wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. The treasury is being urged by the heads of EasyJet, Ryanair, Virgin Atlantic and International Airlines Group (IAG) to review the tax because of the damaging effect it will have on the UK travel industry.

Families hoping to enjoy a break in the Sun Shine will be worst hit, with the rise in APD on short-haul flights meaning that travellers will now be paying £13 in tax compared with the previous £12, which when worked out for a family, soon adds up for a quick break in the sun. Those looking to travel long haul which is above 6,000 miles will face an increase from £85 to £91 per person.

Last year APD was frozen which came as some respite for airlines who had suffered from problems previously with volcanic ash cloud problems and snow over winter, however the Government insisted because of the freeze on the tax last year they had to increase it this year although they did say that they had also now levied APD on private jets.

The increases in the four bands for reduced rate which is lowest class on a flight are as follows:

Band A (0-2000 miles) £13
Band B (2001-4000 miles) £65
Band C (4001-6000 miles) £81
Band D (over 6000 miles) £92

The increases in the four bands for standard rate which is if your seat pitch is greater than 40 inches (1.016 metres) on a flight are as follows:

Band A (0-2000 miles) £26
Band B (2001-4000 miles) £130
Band C (4001-6000 miles) £162
Band D (over 6000 miles) £184

With these increases the cost for family holidays will be going up, so many will be looking for the best deals to save themselves money during a time when many don’t have a lot of spare cash, click here to discover some of the best deals to popular family holiday destinations for this summer.

Skiing holidays in Bulgaria are great for the whole family. Even if you do not particularly enjoy skiing, you can still have a great time on a winter sports holiday. A little advance planning will go a long way to ensuring that every member of your family thoroughly enjoys their winter holiday.

If you or someone else in your party is new to the sport, search the internet to find the ski resort you will be visiting and find out which parts of the season are less crowded. Finding yourself on a crowded mountainside, as a new skier, can be an unpleasant and intimidating experience, but there are usually plenty of times throughout the season when resorts are less busy. These times are perfect for novice skiers to practice their skills.

When discussing the best time to visit a ski resort, you may also wish to learn about the availability of skiing lessons; the majority of resorts offer lessons, both private and in groups. In some cases, a lesson or two is even included in the cost of your holiday.

If you do not enjoy skiing, there is still plenty to do on a winter sport holiday while the rest of your party takes to the slopes. Ski lodges often have lots of games, books and videos available to pass the time. You can relax by a warm fire as you read your favourite novel or watch a new movie that you have been meaning to see, but have been too busy to catch at your local cinema. Warm drinks are always readily available in ski lodges; so do not forget to make time to curl up with your favourite hot beverage.

There is sure to be stunning scenery to enjoy, so dig out your walking boots and take a stroll through the resort or out into the countryside. There is nothing quite like breathing in crisp, fresh, mountain air on your cheap holiday 2013.

The Seychelles is a collection of stunning and captivating islands, offering breath-taking sites that are unmatched in other parts of the world. An exciting part of Seychelles holidays is island hopping, going from the outer to inner islands and exploring the magical unspoiled paradise of each. There are many ways to explore the less well known secluded and unspoiled parts of the Seychelles.

One way to do is through commercial carriers. Private planes can connect Mahe to some of the smaller islands, and a selection of regular and scheduled flights are available locally for this purpose. Flights go to and from Mahe to the popular Praslin Island, La Digue, Bird and Denis islands. Flights to North Island can be provided by private helicopter charters in the area, for spaciousness, privacy and luxury, charter flights are easy to organize locally.

Another interesting way to explore the Seychelles islands is through Catamaran. Catamaran ferries connect Praslin and La Digue, leaving relatively frequently.

For those who prefer more stylish and luxurious comforts than Catamarans are able to provide, Le Meridien Pearl is a luxury cruise liner that connects various points of the Seychelles, and is a wonderful way to explore the islands during longer stays. Equipped with 34 luxury cabins, the cruise ship stops at different islands for a total of 7 days. Full service cabins provide plush comforts of any hotel and even offer laundry and valet services en-suite.

A selection of sports are available aboard Le Meridien Pear’s luxury cruise liner, as well as live entertainment, attentive staff. On board guests can use the pool, play golf, relax at the lounge or view live shows on stage. Le Meridien is also equipped with amenities and equipment for windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing and snorkelling.

Last year alone, almost 16 million people spent their holiday in Thailand. Thailand is a beautiful country with a rich history and culture. But, you can easily ruin your holiday if you don’t plan properly. Make the most of your holiday in Thailand by avoiding these three common mistakes.

Making Ko Phuket Your First Thai Beach Experience

Chances are, you’ve heard of Ko Phuket, one of the country’s biggest and most populated beaches. However, it is over-developed and crammed with tourists. So, you might not enjoy the beach experience. Instead of Ko Phuket, why not try Ko Chang or Ko Lipe. Though neither island has its own airport, they are less crowded and just as beautiful.

Focusing on Khao San Road When in Bangkok

As you research a budget holiday in Thailand, you may have read about the infamous Khao San Road for shopping, dining, and nightlife. Feel free to pass by just to satisfy your curiosity, but be aware that it is pretty shabby. Instead, check out the affordable accommodations of Soi Kasem, near Siam Square.

Doing Too Much in the Northern Area

Most people try to cram too much into their holiday itinerary. The point of taking a holiday is to enjoy yourself, so why wear yourself out by cramming too much into the schedule? In Thailand’s north, there is plenty to do – elephant rides, outdoor adventures, and treks. Instead of spreading yourself too thin, split your time between a couple of different activities, focusing on one per day.
